Prepare yourself. There will be quite a surprise when you

of the things you held dear are actually not so important, and those things you
may have pushed to the side are more important.
In actuality, nothing is more or less of anything. Everything simply IS, and it is in enjoying
the existence of all that is that you grow.

experience of it. Nothing more. If you can bring more peace, joy, and love to
the experience while you have it, the experience will be all the more full, but
you cannot fail at this game of life.

It's sounds so simple doesn't it? Why shouldn't it be though? As a kid I used to wonder about all the formalities in church and wonder to myself does God really want us to follow all these rules? Where did they come from in some cases?
As a young adult and sometimes now, spiritual fellowship with others certainly was and can be a positive thing (personally I often I felt closer to God in nature though). I feel that attempts by some to try and control others can be counterproductive to an individuals growth.
