Sarcasm .. the very word has the root of one of your illnesses, sarcosis. It is a biting word, meant to make a point, but the point—in the end—jabs not just the recipient of the words, but the one who issues them. Be aware of when you use sarcasm as a weapon. Yes, it is a weapon. You may rationalize and call it humor, but it is yet another of ego’s defense mechanisms. When ego rather than the spirit side of you is involved, there is a better way. And, of course, when ego is involved, it takes a bit of effort and attention to overcome. Pay attention when the sarcasm slips from your lips and examine why you would choose the emotion connected with those words over more loving words laced with love.
Conscious living. It frees you from inflicting pain upon yourself and others.
Wow! I too used sarcasm as a weapon. I did know that while others may laugh, they also were being issued a warning: screw with me and you are the next one to be skewered. Love is just such a wonderful alternate which nurtures me and those around me. And I have learned to be funny without cynicism or sarcasm. Now the laughs are pain-free. Whew! That’s a relief to everyone, including me!
