You have your favorite television show. You watch it regularly, for you want to know what happens to the characters. Watch carefully. There is great predictability is there not? One will always be the hero(ine) and others the villains. The characters may step out of their assigned roles on occasion to give you and your hero(ine) hope, but then they go back to playing their familiar and expected roles. Soon you realize they are not going to change and it becomes a bit discouraging. What to do? The choice is always yours. Continue watching and do not change any more than the characters on your TV screen or get off the treadmill. Choose another show or create your own new activity. You control the remote control. Some programs will play on and on, but you can choose whether to change the channel.
Thank you for this message and it could not have been more timely. I’m going through a tremendous amount of change right now: upcoming retirement, beginning a second career, Mother with accelerating dementia, gave up sugar (plus a couple of other addictive behaviors) and loaned our weekend getaway home to a relative in need. While things could be a lot worse, the experience is teaching me to surrender. I also see how much the false-self is comfortable with routine. Today’s message meant a lot – thank you and many blessings.
