Why do humans fight so? It is learned behavior and it is wired into the body. It is a combination of the two. You are programmed to protect the self. Fight or flight is hard to avoid when threatened. You learn to act on this even when the threat has passed, causing you to become blind to alternative ways of dealing with those who do not think as you do. Fighting is necessary for self-preservation, but always remember there is a self and a Self. As you get caught in the throes of a physical reaction, maintain enough awareness to ask of the Self, “Is there a better way?”
You are so very loved.
I am wired for fighting (e.g. I have a temper) and I was encouraged to fight. What a tight wire we walk when we choose fight; rigid, inflexible, strained construct, blocking out all vibration of peace and love. Flight on the other hand has its own destructive characteristics if it involves unresolved issues resulting from the silent treatment. A better way maybe the practice of meditation resulting in an awareness to who we are and what our responses look like. And further yet, getting to know your higher self and having the blessing of merging with your guides. Oh how I wish for a day that I may be able to call on my guides for guidance and support. I believe they are there but I haven’t yet tuned into them. That is my prayer. Namaste.
There’s a third option to responding to stress — identified by a female scientist — and that is to ‘tend and befriend.’ In our warlike western society we often fail to mention that peace-making, mutually-supportive option where everybody wins.
